Membership for Corporate Senior IT/IS Executives (non-CIOs)  |  Affiliate Program Criteria

General:

Affiliate status with CHIME is limited to senior level IT executives in the healthcare sector who are direct reports to current CHIME member CIOs.

*Please note: the qualifications for the CHIME Affiliate Program significantly differ from the qualifications for full CHIME membership. The healthcare community includes delivery systems, payer/insurance organizations and other healthcare-related organizations. Because of the rapidly changing healthcare landscape, these criteria serve as primary guidelines, which may evolve as industry and IS strategies change.

    • Medical Groups (e.g., PPOs, Group Practices)

    • Public Health Care Agencies (providing direct care services)
  2. Healthcare Payer/Insurance Organizations
    • Insurance
    • HMO
  3. Organizations related to healthcare IT, but whose primary business does not include selling memberships, or selling hardware, software, or IT services to healthcare CIOs. Such organizations could include radiology groups, RHIOs, state or federal government agencies, disease management companies, etc.

Job Responsibilities:

Termination/Status Change:

  1. Change of Employment
    1. If at the time of renewal, you have been promoted to the position of CIO (or otherwise fill the role of the highest ranking IS executive), we encourage you to apply for full CHIME membership. Please see the CHIME membership criteria included in this handbook for more information.
    2. If at the time of renewal, you have changed jobs and no longer meet the affiliate criteria, you are ineligible for renewal and your affiliate status will be terminated.
    3. If the new employer is a vendor or consulting firm, and you still meet the affiliate criteria, you are ineligible for renewal and your affiliate status will be terminated.
    4. At the time of your renewal, if your organization has merged/integrated/ consolidated and you retain your current position and otherwise meet the affiliate criteria, you will be eligible for renewal. If your responsibilities change and you no longer meet the affiliate criteria, you will retain your affiliate status for the current year only and you will be ineligible for renewal.
  2. Change due to Unemployment
Affiliate status will be allowed to continue until it expires and you will be ineligible for renewal.
  3. Non-payment of Dues
Affiliate status will be terminated if dues are not paid on an annual basis.
  4. CMIOs and CNIOs. Applicants who are the highest-ranking clinical informatics professionals in the medical or nursing areas at their organization may be qualified to join. The organization’s CIO must also be a member and write a letter of support for the CMIO or CNIO to join.

For members who have not changed jobs but do not meet our current criteria (due to organizational changes), CHIME will continue to renew their memberships as an act of good will because they met the membership criteria when they joined.
    2. If the new employer is a vendor or consulting firm, and the member meets the membership criteria, the member will be allowed continued membership. However, the member will not be allowed to serve on CHIME Board of Trustees. If the new employer is a vendor or consulting firm and the member does not meet the membership criteria, the membership will be dropped immediately.
    3. If a member’s organization is merged/integrated/consolidated, and the member retains or increases responsibilities consistent with the membership criteria, the member will retain membership status. Otherwise, the member will be allowed to complete their current year of membership only.

I have found the IT Warehouse and the CIO Connection newsletter to be valuable information sources tailored to the unique challenges facing CIOs in healthcare. Those combined with the College Live sessions and the semi-annual CIO Forums provide me with a powerful combination of information and professional networking which more than justify the cost of membership.
