Affiliate Program Criteria
General:
Affiliate status with
CHIME is limited to senior level IT executives
in the healthcare sector who are direct reports
to current CHIME member CIOs.
*Please note: the qualifications for the CHIME
Affiliate Program significantly differ
from the qualifications for full CHIME membership.
The healthcare community includes delivery systems,
payer/insurance organizations and other healthcare-related
organizations. Because of the rapidly changing healthcare
landscape, these criteria serve as primary guidelines, which
may evolve as industry and IS strategies change.
Employment Criteria:

Health Services Delivery Organization(s)

Hospital/Acute Care
-
Medical Groups (e.g., PPOs, Group Practices)

Long Term/Extended Care

Home Health Care/Hospice/Long-term Care
-
Public Health Care Agencies (providing direct care services)

Healthcare Payer/Insurance Organizations
-
Organizations related to healthcare IT, but whose
primary business does not include selling memberships,
or selling hardware, software, or IT services to healthcare
CIOs. Such organizations could include radiology groups, RHIOs,
state or federal government agencies, disease management companies, etc.
Job Responsibilities:
Senior level IT professional in the healthcare sector
Reporting Relationship:
Must be a DIRECT report to a current CHIME member CIO in good standing
Termination/Status Change:

Change of Employment
- If at the time of renewal, you have been promoted to the position of CIO
(or otherwise fill the role of the highest ranking IS executive), we
encourage you to apply for full CHIME membership. Please see the CHIME
membership criteria included in this handbook for more information.
- If at the time of renewal, you have changed jobs and no longer meet the
affiliate criteria, you are ineligible for renewal and your affiliate status will
be terminated.
- If the new employer is a vendor or consulting firm, and you still meet the
affiliate criteria, you are ineligible for renewal and your affiliate status will
be terminated.
- At the time of your renewal, if your organization has merged/integrated/
consolidated and you retain your current position and otherwise meet the
affiliate criteria, you will be eligible for renewal. If your responsibilities
change and you no longer meet the affiliate criteria, you will retain your
affiliate status for the current year only and you will be ineligible for
renewal.

Change due to Unemployment
Affiliate status will be allowed to continue until it expires and you will be ineligible
for renewal.

Non-payment of Dues
Affiliate status will be terminated if dues are not paid on an annual basis.

CMIOs and CNIOs. Applicants who are the highest-ranking clinical
informatics professionals in the medical or nursing areas at their
organization may be qualified to join. The organization’s CIO must
also be a member and write a letter of support for the CMIO or
CNIO to join.
Reporting Relationship:
Generally reports to CEO, COO, CFO, or CIO of the delivery system.
Scope of Responsibility:
For CIO members:

Has overall IS responsibility. Additional
duties may include telecommunications, medical
records, management engineering, etc.

Leads the IS strategy for the organization,
as evidenced by reporting relationship and
committee involvement.

Has a significant IS organization, including
multiple business/clinical applications and complex
technical environments.
For CMIO/CNIO members:

Has overall responsibility for clinical
informatics in the organization (for CMIO/CNIO
applicants only). Must be the highest-ranking
clinical informatics professional.
Termination/Status Change:

Change of Employment

If at the time of renewal, the member has changed
jobs and no longer meets our membership criteria, the
membership will be terminated. For members who have not
changed jobs but do not meet our current criteria (due to
organizational changes), CHIME will continue to renew
their memberships as an act of good will because they
met the membership criteria when they joined.

If the new employer is a vendor or consulting firm,
and the member meets the membership criteria, the member
will be allowed continued membership. However, the member
will not be allowed to serve on CHIME Board of Trustees.
If the new employer is a vendor or consulting firm and the
member does not meet the membership criteria, the
membership will be dropped immediately.

If a member’s organization is merged/integrated/consolidated,
and the member retains or increases responsibilities consistent
with the membership criteria, the member will retain membership
status. Otherwise, the member will be allowed to complete their
current year of membership only.

For CMIO/CNIO members: if an organization’s CIO changes, the new
CIO must be a member of CHIME and support the CMIO/CNIO’s membership
in order for the CMIO/CNIO to renew.

Change to Unemployment/Retirement
Member will be allowed to continue their current year plus one year of membership as long as they are not employed by a vendor or consulting firm.

Non-payment of Dues
Membership will be terminated if dues are not paid on an annual basis.
Online-only membership
is available exclusively for CIOs at organizations outside
the United States and/or for CIOs at small and rural organizations
(facilities must have fewer than 125 beds or less than $75 million
in annual revenue). Online-only members are not eligible to attend
any of our face-to-face educational programs or conferences.
