Physicians with Hospital Email Discussion List Sample
|
2007-04-09 17:25:00 |
I request info on how other hospitals deal with giving physicians a
hospital email account. Is it offered to all or none? If that info is
in a policy, I would love to see examples as well.
Thank you very much for your time,

We offer hospital email to all physicians on staff. Many prefer to use
outside email services [gmail, yahoo, etc], however, and we allow them
to get to those systems from the hospital network.
Many docs who use the enterprise system complain about what they
consider to be a bombardment of mail via the group mail we send out to
the employee population.

There is a thread on this topic from 4/21/06 in this Discussion list. Look for
original message from Mike Johnson (I believe) to see message and replies. You
can do a search for "physician e-mail" and scroll down the results to find it.

Much like [XXXX], we offer email to all physicians, but they have the
choice of electing to choose their personal email address or the hospital email
address. However, we do take them out of the distribution list that is set up to
send messages to all hospital employees. In this way, they do not get the many
messages that the staff normally experiences.

Physician email-- this has come up for us recently. We have a group of
Intensivists (contract, not employed) and they inquired about using
hospital Outlook. We have Meditech and we have them using Meditech MOX
email instead because that is only useful in the facility -- therefore
no issue with Stark. I think we would have to do more investigation to
determine whether we could give them Outlook without offering it to all
physicians.
Help desk SW -- We use Track-it and it has worked well for us. We
interface tickets from Outlook to Track-it. Here's a link to the

We are a healthplan not a hospital. We use Tumbleweed for secure email
and offer it free to our providers for use in handling
healthplan-related secure communication -- for a specialist to
communicate the results of a consult to the member's PCP. We are very
pleased with the product. It allows attachments as well, which are also
secure.
