CHIME Collaboration Award

Overview: The CHIME Collaboration Award was designed to recognize the best collaborative effort as evidenced in a document co-authored by a CHIME Foundation firm and a CHIME member.

Sponsored by the CHIME Board of Trustees, the Collaboration Award will be presented annually at the Fall CIO Forum.

Purpose: The Collaboration Award was designed to recognize a collaborative effort by a CHIME Foundation firm and CHIME member. The Award will provide organizational and industry recognition to Foundation firms and CIOs. The co-authored paper should have value for the healthcare IT/IS arena in terms of both the collaborative effort and the overall topic.

The program provides an opportunity for these efforts to be openly shared with the CHIME membership for possible application in other healthcare environments.

Criteria: The umbrella theme for the Collaboration Award is “healthcare business success.” Topic areas may vary from paper to paper; some general topic ideas include successful installations, original research, or resolution of a specific institutional problem. However, the main point of the document should illustrate the specific strategies that made the collaborative effort successful.

Necessary background information about the collaborative effort must be included. This information may consist of the challenges and barriers faced; the conclusion or outcomes achieved; the recommendation(s) that could be offered; and the collaborative strategies utilized. It is strongly suggested that quantifiable measurements be included (financial ROI, employee time saved, etc.). All entries should include a 2 paragraph executive summary, and be limited to no more than 10 pages total.

Participating firms must belong to the CHIME Foundation. Participating CIOs must be members of CHIME. Foundation firms and CHIME CIO members may participate in more than one entry. If the collaborative effort involved more than one firm or CIO, all participants should be listed on the entry form.

Judging: The CHIME Awards Committee will review all entries and select the winning paper based upon a 100-point scale. Points will be awarded in each of the following categories:

Collaboration (0-50 Points): What level of collaboration was achieved between the CIO and Foundation firm? For example, does the document describe/outline a collaborative process that:

  1. Contributed greatly to the outcome of the project or initiative?
  2. Could be emulated by other CIOs with their vendor firms?

There should also be an explanation of how this collaborative effort is different than a normal business relationship.

Healthcare Business Success (0-30 Points): To what extent could the effort contribute and influence healthcare business success? In other words, does the paper consist of practical and employable strategies that can be used by the general healthcare CIO community to achieve greater business success? What specific, measurable results has the collaboration achieved at the CHIME member’s organization?

Originality (0-20 points): How original is the idea, i.e., does it provide an innovative solution to a problem? Does it demonstrate a creative hypothesis or provide groundbreaking research results?

Total: 100 points

Submission of Entries: Entries must be received at the CHIME office by 5 PM (EST) Friday, July 18, 2008. All entries should begin with a 1-2 paragraph Executive Summary. Entries are limited to a total of 10 pages. Entries may be completed online, e-mailed, mailed, or faxed. All supporting visuals and reference materials should be attached (electronically or on paper) to the entry form.

Electronic entries should be in Microsoft Word or PDF format. Visuals (drawings, photos, tables, charts, graphs, etc.) illustrating main points are encouraged. Visuals may be in attachments (electronic or paper).

Recognition: The CHIME Collaboration Award winner will be announced annually at the Fall CIO Forum.

Entries remain the property (both physical and intellectual) of the co-authors. However, CHIME reserves the right to post any or all entries to the IT Warehouse on the CHIME website.
