Honors For Your Staff

We know how important staff development is to our members and their organizations. Many of you work with dedicated, high achieving staff members who show enthusiasm for the field and a great potential for advancement. If these words bring one of your own staff members to mind, why not nominate them for the John Glaser Scholarship?

The John Glaser Scholarship award was unveiled at the 2002 Spring CIO Forum. Its namesake, John Glaser, is Vice President & CIO at Partners Health Care System in Boston, MA. John led the establishment of CHIME and the CHIME Foundation, serving as Chairman of both organizations. The scholarship was created as a testament to his unique vision of quality educational and networking opportunity for healthcare CIOs.

Members are encouraged to nominate outstanding staff members to receive one of the two $3,000 scholarships. The John Glaser Professional Development and Leadership Scholarship Selection Committee will review candidates and select the two annual winners. Criteria include demonstrated CIO potential and dedication to professional development.

Scholarship Applicant Criteria and Materials:

  1. Scholarship candidates should provide a current resume highlighting achievements of exhibited leadership or leadership potential in the field of healthcare IT.
  2. Scholarship candidates must demonstrate their interest by submitting an essay. The essay should be completed in several parts (each part should be between 500 and 1,000 words.)
    • The first part should address the candidate’s vision and goals as a future healthcare IT leader, how they have demonstrated leadership in their organization, and how this scholarship will enhance their ability to improve their healthcare IT leadership skills and progress toward the position of CIO.
    • The second part should address the top three issues/challenges that the candidate believes CIOs will have to face in the future and how they might address them one they become a CIO.
    • Candidates should also address any financial challenges that they have at their organization that prohibits them from otherwise participating in leadership development activities. (only include this in the essay if it is applicable.)
    • Scholarship candidates must provide some information on what programs they would like to attend with the scholarship monies, and how they would benefit from attending those program(s)
