Glen Tullman Receives CHIME Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award
ANN ARBOR, MI, October 27, 2011 – Glen Tullman, Chief Executive Officer of Allscripts since 1997, is this year’s winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award, presented by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) Foundation.
Tullman, one of the nation’s leading advocates for the electronic, real-time sharing of healthcare information, received the award at the CHIME11 Fall CIO Forum in San Antonio, Texas. The award recognizes contributions to the healthcare IT industry throughout the recipient’s entire career.
Tullman has a history of leading the industry toward improved quality, safety and efficiency. In January 2007, Tullman was a founder of the National ePrescribing Patient Safety Initiative™ (NEPSI™), a coalition of leading technology and healthcare companies which came together to achieve the objective of providing electronic prescribing to every physician in America, at no charge. Today, more than 17 million electronic prescriptions are written on the system, all at no cost to the physician. Tullman’s entrepreneurial accomplishments have been widely recognized. Ernst & Young named him the 2008 Entrepreneur of the Year in the technology category for the Midwest region. In 2010, The Chicago Area Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame awarded him its Lifetime Achievement Award. Tullman has also spent time in Washington, advising the Administration on healthcare and testifying on healthcare related issues.
Tullman shares CHIME’s appreciation of the importance of the collaboration and exchange of information between industry leaders in order to effectively improve health. With his vision of a Connected Community of Health™, Tullman has transformed healthcare by crafting the industry’s largest network of clients on the most advanced product platform resulting in one patient record. As a proactive philanthropist, Tullman has personally built a culture of giving back at Allscripts, both by providing opportunities for employee philanthropy and by modeling it in his own life.
“It’s an honor to accept this prestigious award from the nation’s healthcare CIOs,” Tullman said. “The members of CHIME are leading the transformation of healthcare into an information business where providers receive the insights needed to produce extraordinary outcomes and improve the lives of patients every day. I’m proud to have played a role in making that vision a reality with the help of our employees and especially our clients, who are the real recipients of this honor.”
“Through Glen’s visionary leadership, he has built a company with product offerings across the community of care,” wrote Bill Spooner, CIO of Sharp Healthcare and a former member of CHIME’s Board of Trustees, in a letter supporting Tullman’s nomination. “He has inspired his team to perform what at times seemed to them impossible as he moved towards continual product and service improvement.”
The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated exceptional dedication and made an outstanding contribution to the healthcare IS industry as well as the CHIME Foundation.
