Blumenthal to Keynote CHIME09 Fall CIO Forum
ANN ARBOR, MI - The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) is pleased to announce National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, Dr. David Blumenthal, will serve as Opening Keynote Speaker at the CHIME09 Fall CIO Forum. The event will be held October 27-30 in Indian Wells, Calif.
Dr. Blumenthal was appointed to his position in March of this year. He is tasked with leading the Office of the National Coordinator as it allocates nearly $20 billion for implementation of a nationwide interoperable, privacy-protected health information technology infrastructure as called for in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. As Opening Keynote Speaker, Dr. Blumenthal will address hundreds of healthcare CIOs whose positions are directly impacted by the decisions he will make.
“We are very pleased to have Dr. Blumenthal provide the opening keynote at our Fall CIO Forum,” said CHIME President and CEO Rich Correll. “CHIME members will be directly affected by the work he is doing in Washington. We feel it will be mutually beneficial for him to have access to those leading their organization’s IT strategy and for CHIME members to learn from him how best to respond to the forthcoming requirements of the HITECH Act.”
Other CHIME09 Keynote Speakers include:
Dr. Lowell Catlett is not a newcomer to predictions. As head of the New Mexico State University College of Agriculture, he's kept his fingers on the pulse of the future for many years, and he loves doing it. Dr. Catlett will share his unique perspective on what the future holds for healthcare as multiple forces converge in a way that will redefine the direction of our industry.
Thornton May operationalizes Henry David Thoreau's aphorism: "It's not what you look at, it's what you see." Collecting data from all corners of the technology world, May synthesizes the insights of the top thinkers on the planet seeking to understand where we have been, where we are today and where we are going. He is currently writing two books--The New Know: Analytics, Innovation & Transformation and 2033: Bringing the Future to the Present. He teaches at four business schools, writes for five magazines, researches at three think tanks and keeps in monthly contact with over a thousand C-level executives. Classically educated in anthropology, cognitive science and finance — instead of focusing on primitive cultures, in-the-lab experiments or hedge funding —May’s observations illuminate our society and our behavior. The editors at eWeek magazine recently voted him “one of the most 100 influential people in the IT industry."
Boris Brott is an internationally recognized orchestra conductor, holding major posts as a music director in both the United States and Canada. He enjoys an international career as guest conductor, educator, motivational speaker, and cultural ambassador. Currently, he is Conductor and Music Director of the New West Symphony in California, the McGill Chamber Orchestra in Montreal, Canada, the National Academy Orchestra of Canada and Principal Youth and Family Conductor of the National Arts Center of Canada. He is also Artistic Director of the Brott Musical Festivals, Ontario's principal classical orchestra music festival.
