CHIME Collaboration Award given to George Carr and Cerner
Ann Arbor, MI, October 31, 2008 – CHIME Chair Rod Dykehouse and CHIME President & CEO Rich Correll presented CHIME’s 2008 Collaboration Award to George Carr, CIO at University of Missouri Health Care and Cerner.
The Collaboration Award, presented at the CHIME08 Fall CIO Forum in Henderson, Nevada, recognizes the best collaborative effort as evidenced in a document co-authored by a CHIME Foundation firm and a CHIME member. The criteria demands that the winning co-authored paper have value for the healthcare IT/IS arena in terms of both the collaborative effort and the overall topic.
Mr. Carr worked with Cerner to create Electronic Medical Records (EMR) that would help patients who suffer from chronic conditions. These EMRs hold information contributed by all the patients’ healthcare providers. Results for all tests run are accessible to all doctors who see the patient, not only the doctor who ordered it. In turn, care providers get a more inclusive overall picture of the patients’ health and how other care providers are treating the patients.
In addition, the collaboration has given Cerner more experience in enhancement of its solution platform to more fully support management of chronic conditions. It has also allowed Cerner the ability to extend its collaboration output to other clients and established a successful partnership model that can grow over time.
