Gingrich Presents 2007 CHIME-CHT Transformational Leadership Award
Ann Arbor, MI, November 30, 2007 – Newt Gingrich, founder of the Center for Health Transformation (The Center) presented the CHIME-CHT Transformational Leadership Award on November 16 in Washington, DC. The award was presented by Gingrich and CHIME President & CEO Rich Correll during CHIME’s LEAD Forum, a one-day educational event for CIOs. The award was designed to honor an organization that has excelled in developing and deploying transformational information technology that improves the delivery of care and streamlines administrative services.
The award was presented to Lehigh Valley Hospital & Health Network in recognition of their commitment to transforming patient care through investment in information technology. On hand to accept the award on behalf of Lehigh Valley were Harry Lukens, Senior Vice President & CIO and Dr. Donald Levick, Past-President of Medical Staff.
“The future of our healthcare system depends on our ability to adopt swift, modern technological advances that make serving the patients more personal and more affordable,” said Speaker Newt Gingirch. “Lehigh Valley Hospital & Health Network is on the cutting edge of these advancements.”
As a result of their commitment to advancing information technology within their organization, Lehigh Valley has achieved 100% computerized physician order entry (CPOE) compliance. Accomplishing 100% compliance required finding innovative ways to interface specialty applications with the hospital information system (HIS). The solutions involved close collaboration with vendors and the utilization of a web-based platform.
“Lehigh Valley exemplifies, in many ways, the kind of 21st century hospital system we advocate,” said The Center for Health Transformation’s CEO Nancy Desmond. “The IT-rich system they have developed will definitely be one of the transforming solutions we study as part of the 21st Century, Intelligent Hospital Project recently launched at the Center.”
