CHIME Survey Shows Majority of CIOs Rejecting Stark Exception, Safe Harbor Laws
Ann Arbor, MI, April 20, 2007 - According to a recent survey of CHIME members, the majority of respondents have no plans to take advantage of the new Stark Exception and anti-kickback safe harbor laws.
Results indicate that 62% of respondents do not plan to take advantage of the new Stark exception and anti-kickback safe harbor laws to donate health information technology in the form of EHRs to private physicians. The 38% of respondents that do plan to take advantage of the relaxed laws are planning on donating healthcare information technology in the form of software, implementation support, training, and help desk support.
Comments from respondents indicate that CIOs are concerned that the ruling could be reversed and that the law is subject to interpretation.
