CHIME Survey Shows Slow Implementation, Use of Electronic Physician Documentation
Ann Arbor, MI, April 2, 2008 – A recent survey of CHIME members shows that only a small minority have adopted electronic physician documentation for inpatient care.
The survey, conducted in December 2007, showed that only 18% of responding CHIME members had implemented electronic physician documentation for inpatient care. Of those who reported implementing the technology, the majority (54.5%) said that less than half of their organization’s inpatient physician documentation is actually being completed electronically. A total of 126 CIOs responded to the survey.
Comments from respondents indicated that successful implementation requires engaging key physicians and holding mandatory training.
