Thank you for your interest in a faculty position with CHIME’s Healthcare CIO Boot Camp. Instruction in this intensive program is provided by a dedicated faculty of CIOs who have demonstrated continued success, leadership, and organizational excellence throughout their careers. Along with their myriad organizational and personal successes as CIOs, faculty members possess certain important and unique attributes of a more intangible nature. These qualities include approachability, humility, warmth, openness, and a sincere concern for the development of the industry’s next generation of leaders.
CHIME is currently seeking qualified CIOs who are eager to share their talents and skills in this unique learning environment. The time and effort required of program faculty is demanding. The following criteria were established to help candidates gain a better understanding of the skills and experience we’re seeking as well as the commitment required of faculty members.
Candidates for consideration for CIO Boot Camp Faculty offer:
A Legacy of CIO leadership and Institutional Accomplishment
Key to faculty member performance is the sharing of real life experiences, successes and challenges with students. The prospective faculty member 1) has a well-established career as a healthcare leader and member of the senior management team, 2) has a decade or more of broad-based success as a CIO in applying information technology to drive achievements in organizational strategy and operational performance, and 3) is recognized by the industry for actively sharing these experiences through speaking, writing, and leadership development teaching/training.
Metrics:

Is currently a CIO or serving in similar capacity within your organization. (candidate must provide a detailed work history on their CV)

Has a minimum of 5+ years experience as a healthcare CIO; 10+ preferred (candidate must provide a detailed work history on their CV)

Can demonstrate quantity, quality and variety of speaking engagements and publications (candidate must provide a list of recent speaking engagements along with references as well as recently authored or attributable articles)

Can demonstrate IT successes/milestones coupled with institutional performance (e.g. strategic plan development and multi-year execution, application of advanced technologies including electronic health records, etc.)
Sustained Contributions to the CIO Profession and Healthcare Industry
Contributions to the healthcare industry through professional involvement beyond formal CIO responsibilities is a hallmark if CIO leadership. An element of the Boot Camp experience is instilling the values and benefits of external leadership roles in healthcare IT. Prospective candidates have offered time and talent to professional associations, community organizations, and governmental policy/ advocacy activities.

Is a current member in good standing of CHIME (candidate must have a minimum 3+ years concurrent membership)

Has affiliations/memberships with other professional associations and community organizations. (candidate must provide a list of membership, affiliations and is invited to list other notable activities, achievements)

Can demonstrate a number of diverse leadership positions held in professional/community organizations with milestones of achievement (candidate must provide a list of positions and milestones…e.g. member of the Board of Trustees for CHIME, HIMSS, etc.)
Diversity of Experience, Background and Insight
The learning environment of the CIO Boot Camp is enriched by a variety of perspectives offered by its Faculty. We are seeking new faculty members that add to the current complement of Faculty through diversity of gender, ethnicity, institutional experiences (size, industry segment, geographic, etc.), and unique perspectives or leadership styles.
Personal Attributes Indicative of Teaching Leadership and Success
Recruiting and retaining industry leading CIO faculty with talent and enthusiasm for teaching is essential for long -term program success. The Boot Camp experience is demanding for both faculty and students. Faculty members are expected to develop and deliver high quality coursework materials, presentations, classroom interactions and coaching. A prospective faculty member is expected to exhibit a passion for teaching, communication and team-oriented instructional environments.

Willingness to devote significant off-hours/personal time in the development of curriculum materials, program preparation/planning, and participation.

Faculty are expected to develop, update and/or maintain curriculum materials as required and to provide these materials and other deliverables on time and to staff specifications for program production. Where not otherwise protected, curriculum materials become the intellectual property of CHIME and the Healthcare CIO Boot Camp.

Commitment to regularly attend and participate in scheduled conference calls to discuss program planning and preparations. (typically 4–5 calls per program)
A Multi-Year Commitment of Time, Energy and Talent
Sustaining a core team of CIO faculty provides for program continuity and a collegial teaching approach necessary for a high quality Boot Camp experience. Experience has shown that Faculty performance improves with program participation and interactions with fellow faculty members. A prospective candidate is expected to offer at least a 24-month commitment to the program (equal to 4 Boot Camps) unless extenuating circumstances demand a withdrawal of the offer. The candidate is expected to hold a position as a CIO to remain as a member of the Boot Camp Faculty.

Must maintain employment as a healthcare CIO throughout the commitment period. (faculty must alert Program Director immediately of any change in job status)
