CHIME Helps Rebuild New Orleans with Habitat for Humanity
On Saturday, February 24, 2007, a group of nearly 75 CHIME members, CHIME Foundation representatives, and CHIME staff gathered to assist the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity with Hurricane Katrina recovery projects.
Our volunteers were assigned to various locations, including Musicians' Village in the Upper 9th Ward. Musicians' Village, conceived by jazz musicians Harry Connick, Jr. and Branford Marsalis, will eventually consist of 70 single-family homes for displaced New Orleans musicians and other qualifying families. Its centerpiece will be the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music, dedicated to the education and development of community members.
CHIME volunteers assisted with various tasks in the Village, including site cleanup, interior and exterior carpentry, painting, and fence building.
Thanks to all of our volunteers for participating in the event and spending their day helping rebuild the New Orleans community. We hope you enjoy the pictures from this memorable day!
