| CHIME's CIO Advocacy Leadership |
For the past couple of years, CHIME has been working to increase its presence and voice in Washington
on healthcare IT public policy issues. Led by Board member Pam McNutt, CHIME’s advocacy initiatives have
included collaborations with the Center for Health Transformation, eHealth Initiative, Center for Healthcare
Governance, and the AHA. CHIME’s advocacy strategy focuses on the important mission of advancing IT in
healthcare with the overall goal of improving patient safety and quality of care.
The need for CHIME members to provide feedback to elected officials about healthcare IT legislation has never
been more critical. Staff members of our senators and congressmen have told us that they are overwhelmed by
the proposed bills and need CIO expertise to determine which bills to support. CHIME members are uniquely
suited to provide personal examples and case studies regarding healthcare IT transformation.
CHIME formed an Advocacy Leadership Team in 2006 to spearhead CHIME's involvement in the Advocacy area.
Comprised of 30 members, the Advocacy Leadership Team has formulated CHIME positions and a general framework
of key principles in the use of IT in healthcare. Members of the Team have testified before legislative bodies on
IT and related issues.
