Position Title: CIO
Organization: The Children’s Hospital
Location: US-CO-Denver
Position Description:
Witt/Kieffer has been retained to conduct a national search for the Chief Information Officer for The Children’s
Hospital (TCH) in Denver, Colorado. The recruitment of a new CIO will occur during one of the most exciting and
challenging times within the history of The Children’s Hospital. With the construction of the new state-of-the-art
hospital, the new location for The Children’s Hospital will be on the Fitzsimons campus in Aurora. This new world-class
facility has brought a tremendous amount of planning, hard work and excitement to the information technology strategy
for The Children’s Hospital. As the opening date of October 2007 approaches, the reality of this new facility is just
around the corner.
Along with construction of this new facility numerous information technology strategies are being implemented. As one
of the “Top Ten” pediatric hospitals in the nation, The Children’s Hospital is one of the first children’s hospitals to
convert to an electronic medical record.
In 2003, the conversion of paper records to electronic records began. The Children’s Hospital Information Technology
team has continued to implement EPIC clinical information system modules (pharmacy, clinical documentation, CPOE) to
position the organization for its move into the new hospital.
The Children’s Hospital desires to recruit a CIO who will be a strong business partner with all key constituencies, an
outstanding mentor and developer of talent within the IT team and transformational leader for healthcare technology
strategies. The new CIO will have an opportunity to significantly contribute to the clinical and operational excellence
of the organization and will be a key member of the executive management team.
The next CIO of The Children’s Hospital will have the opportunity to live and work in an outstanding metropolitan market.
Denver is set at the foot of the Rocky Mountains, with views of dozens of snowcapped peaks and fabulous sunsets.
It boasts a great climate, the nation's largest city park system and major ski resorts just an hour away. The
six-county metro area has a population of 2.4 million and Denver has the greatest percentage of college graduates
of any major metropolitan area in the U.S.
Denver is a clean, young and green city with over 200 parks and dozens of tree-lined boulevards and enjoys one of the
West’s most celebrated downtown areas. Nothing about Denver is more misunderstood than the city’s climate. Located just
east of a high mountain barrier and a long distance from any moisture source, Denver has a mild, dry and arid climate.
The city receives only 8-15 inches of precipitation a year (about the same as Los Angeles), and records 300 days of
sunshine a year more annual hours of sun than San Diego or Miami Beach.
All discussions about this search will be handled in strict confidence.
Qualifications:
A seasoned executive in a senior healthcare information systems leadership position such as a CIO, #2, or executive
with a healthcare consulting or vendor organization. Academic medical center or Children’s Hospital experience is a
plus. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Healthcare or other related field is required.
Master’s degree in Business Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, or related field is preferred.
