The CHIME Edge Scholarship

Submit an Online Application

The primary objective of the CHIME Edge Scholarship is to help CHIME members at small and/or rural organizations attend CHIME events. This scholarship is intended for members from small organizations who would not otherwise be able to attend CHIME’s education programs due to restricted or non-existent training and/or travel budgets.

The scholarship can be used for registration fees, travel, and housing* toward any of CHIME’s educational programs, up to $2500. CHIME’s educational programs currently include the Spring CIO Forum, the Fall CIO Forum, LEAD Forums, and the Healthcare CIO Boot Camp.

The scholarship recipient must use the funds within 24 months of being selected as a winner. The scholarship funds are non-transferable.

In addition to completing the scholarship application form, applicants must meet the following criteria and submit the materials described below:

Applicant Criteria:

  1. Applicant must be a current member of CHIME.
  2. The candidate’s organization must have:
    1. an annual revenue of less than $75 million
      OR
    2. 125 beds or fewer
  3. The applicant’s organization has a severely restricted or non-existent budget for training and/or travel.

Materials required:

  1. Scholarship Essay
Part A: This part of the essay should address how this scholarship and attendance at CHIME programs will enhance the candidate’s ability to improve their healthcare IT leadership skills and enhance their current position in their organization or prepare for the next career advancement opportunity. The candidate should explain what their professional development goals are and how the scholarship would help them achieve these goals.

Part B: Candidates must address the financial challenges they have at their organization that prohibit them from otherwise participating in leadership development activities. They should discuss how any restrictions on training and education have affected their professional development and career progression.
  2. Training/Travel Policy
Applicant must provide a copy of the organization’s current training/travel policy (including any restrictions), or documentation from their immediate supervisor attesting the lack of funding for attendance at educational programs.
  3. Letter of recommendation
Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from their immediate supervisor. The letter should support the applicant’s attendance at CHIME’s educational events and explain why their participation would be beneficial to the candidate’s professional development.

* Hotel rooms will be covered only for the duration of the educational event (e.g., one night for the LEAD Forums, 3 nights for the Healthcare CIO Boot Camp, etc.).
