Richard A. Correll CIO Scholarship

Application Form

The Richard A. Correll CIO scholarship is funded by a generous donation from CHIME President and CEO Richard Correll. Mr. Correll has a strong interest in the professional development of CIOs in the healthcare industry and has funded this scholarship to support their ongoing education. This scholarship is aimed at supporting CIOs in improving their skills as an IT leader at their organization and increasing their proficiency in CHIME’s seven CIO Success Factors. The Scholarship Committee will take financial need into consideration when selecting the winner for this scholarship.

All scholarship applicants must be members of CHIME.

Scholarship winners can use the funds for any education related to improving in the Success Factor(s) they identified (including registration fees/tuition, and travel costs* to attend). Funds must be used within 24 months of receiving the scholarship.

The Essay: After identifying which Success Factor(s) you need the most improvement in, please write a professional development/education plan for how you would achieve proficiency in that Success Factor. Your plan should be no more than two pages long.

Your plan should explain:

  1. What actions you would take to improve in the area(s) that you identified. Your plan should include the program you listed in your answer to question 4.
  2. How improvement in the Success Factor(s) would help your organization.
  3. How improvement in the Success Factor(s) would help you fulfill your professional development goals.

* Hotel rooms will be covered only for the duration of the educational event
** The Seven CIO Success Factors

Through extensive research, CHIME has identified seven critical and developable competencies that are inherent of successful healthcare CIOs. These success factors are described below:
  • Sets Vision and Strategy Collaborates well with officers and senior leaders to set organizational vision and strategy and to determine how technology can best serve the business.
  • Integrates Information Technology for Business Success Applies knowledge of the organization’s systems, structures and functions to determine how to best serve the business with technology.
  • Makes Change Happen Monitors and influences the dynamics of adaptive change in IT and the organization.
  • Builds Technological Confidence Builds the organizations’ awareness of and confidence in its technology by conveying IT’s contributions to the business.
  • Partners With Customers Interacts with internal and external customers to ensure continuous customer satisfaction.
  • Ensures Information Technology Talent Creates a work environment and community that draws, develops and retains top IT talent.
  • Builds Networks and Community Develops and maintains networks with internal and external sources and links networks for greater exposure. Builds community to sustain networks by sharing knowledge and power in the marketplace.
