A Global Innovation Initiative Transforming Health and Care
Through Education and Innovation Facilitation
-
Summary
CHIME Innovation is a global healthcare innovation initiative of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME).
CHIME Innovation includes innovation-specific education, innovation facilitation, and physical centers and labs designed around collaboratively solving healthcare problems. The first Innovation Center was launched in partnership with Intermountain Healthcare in Utah.
Education is a cornerstone of CHIME Innovation, which will be presented at the centers and labs, available remotely as well. Additional programming and value-added services are being developed to meet the needs of CHIME’s unique membership and the global healthcare community.
CHIME Innovation is growing! Check out more about the CHIME Innovation Network.

Tell Your Story
Innovation doesn’t require shiny new technologies. It does include you and your team solving real problems with real solutions.
We all benefit when our peers share their gifts of knowledge and experience. Share your story.
We’re calling all CHIME members to share their innovation stories. Share, so that your peers can benefit from your ingenuity and innovative ‘wins’. Share your failures and successes alike, so that we all can do our part in advancing global health and care through innovation.
Step 1: Submit your story. (The guided form is easy!)
Step 2: Receive a response from CHIME Innovation’s Executive Director within 48 business hours.
Step 3: If selected, your story will be shared with all CHIME, AEHIS, AEHIT, & AEHIA members.
Step 4: Know your story is helping improve global health and care.
Bonus: If your story is selected, you will earn 3 CEUs!

— James Weeks (@jimmyweeks) September 20, 2019
I attended a thought-provoking event hosted by CHIME last week that was a call to action.
Omar Lateef, DO, CEO of Rush Medical Center, spoke about driving change from the top of the healthcare system. He emphasized gaining a clear understanding of the pain points felt by users, and forming partnerships to make change that is meaningful.
Vijay Govindarajan presented a simple yet powerful Three Box Solution. He spoke about linear and non-linear shifts, and the careful balance that must be maintained in optimizing for the present, selectively disregarding old models from the past, and preparing for the future. VG also presented the best template for a 1-page strategy architecture that I’ve ever seen.
Emily Melton outlined what venture capitalists look for when investing in digital health innovations.
I also got to hear from Scott Powder, Chief Strategy Officer for Advocate Aurora Health, on how his organization used a dual transformation model to prepare for disruption, while simultaneously optimizing core functions. Scott emphasized that innovation is about experimentation; fail fast to learn fast.
Hats off to the moderators: Jonathan Fritz, CFCHE, Russ Branzell, Tim Stettheimer, Ph.D., and Kali Durgampudi, CFCHE for a great event.
